Let Coyote Communications Handle Your Mailing

You're mailing 1,000 pieces to various zip codes in the area. Coyote Communications, Inc., CASS certifies all mailing lists, so you will qualify for additional discounts if you have more than 150 pieces going to any one zip code. You have 360 pieces going to 33801,an additional 599 pieces going to other zip codes in the 338 (Polk County) area and 41 pieces in the 335 (Plant City) zip code area.

Coyote Handling Fee - 1,000 pieces*  x .080 = $80.00
41 pieces to Plant City x 0.231 = $ 9.47
360 pieces to 33801 x 0.173 = $ 62.28
599 pieces to other 338 zip codes x 0.187 = $112.02

TOTAL POSTAGE & HANDLING

= $263.77

*Does not include applicable sales tax (7% x $80 = $5.60).

That's a $115.95 savings over just the postage expense of mailing first class.

Or, you could do it yourself. You already know how expensive it would be to mail at first class rates, so why not get your own mailing permit and take advantage of discounted postage rates?

Do It Yourself

First you have to apply for the permit ($160 one-time fee) and then pay your annual permit fee (another $160). Okay, that's out of the way. Now what?

  1. Design your mail piece (or pay somebody to do it for you).

  2. Deliver the finished piece to the printer.

  3. Pick up your mail pieces from the printer.

  4. Print your mailing list on to labels (in zip code sorted order).

  5. Affix the labels to each piece.

  6. Deliver your mailing to the post office.

That's easy enough. But how much is it going to cost? Let's say you're mailing 1,000 pieces to various zip codes: 959 pieces in the 338 (Polk County) and 41 pieces in the 335 (Plant City) zip code areas. You don't have the software to CASS certify your mailing list, so you're going with what you have.

You've already paid the printer and purchased the labels. You've also paid your employees to affix the labels or did it yourself. Your postage cost would be:

41 pieces to Plant City x 0.282 = $ 11.56
959 pieces to 338 zip codes x 0.234 = $224.42

TOTAL POSTAGE COST

= $235.98

Not bad! You saved $154.02 in postage compared to mailing your 1,000 pieces at first class rates. It's also $27.79 less than having Coyote Communications, Inc., do it for you but don't forget the cost of labels, and the time involved in preparing the pieces for mailing! If you figure in those costs, are you really saving thirty dollars?
